Vanishing point: Rio de la Plata

2020 I Politics and Society

“Vanishing point: Rio de la Plata” – our senior partner Dr. Bernd Wulffen’s (retired ambassador) deals with the escape of 40.000 German Jews to Argentina, which took place from 1933 onwards.

Even though life in Argentina didn’t always turn out to be easy, they were happy to have escaped the Nazis. Many people, among them academicians, were able to build a new life for themselves in Rio de la Plata. Still, with the Nationalists having built a base for themselves in Argentina in order to try and influence society with conservative forces to follow their ideology, the political climate remained risky. During his time at the German Embassy in Buenos Aires, Dr. Wulffen got to know and appreciate a number of German Jewish emigrants. His book is available now, e.g. via Amazon.
